A new report issued by Coalition Against Trafficking in Women, "Sex Trafficking of Women in the United States: International and Domestic Trends," shows the 50,000 women and children trafficked each year into the United States, as estimated by the US government, is not based on systematic research into contemporary trafficking. The Coalition's investigation went into both international and domestic trafficking of women for sex in the United States based on primary research with victims. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services program Rescue & Restore Victims of Human Trafficking, is under funded: "We've just begun to scratch the surface," said Steve Wagner, director of the Health and Human Services human trafficking program, which is spearheading the Rescue & Restore effort.
