tax exempt status for religious organizations

There is always a silver lining to things...This whole prop 8 thing has really shined a light on a law that quite often is completely ignored.

Here is the law: to qualify for tax exempt status as a 501c group:

"Corporations organized and operated exclusively for religious purposes have no substantial part of the activities of which is carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting, to influence legislation."

Dobson's Focus on the Family Donated $800,000 to prop 8. Was it not to influence the results of the legislation?

The Mormon Church basically told their members they would burn in Hell if they did not donate to 8. One couple of middle class means gave $50,000 of their savings. The Mormon church gave 80% of the money raised for prop 8. About 20 million dollars. What recession? People hurting? Losing their homes? Taking kids out of day care? But they some how whipped up $20,000,000 to sure that gay people in another state lost an existing right because marriage needs to be "protected" from the gays.

Click on this link and please fill out this petition to the IRS to revoke the Mormon churches tax exempt status. They most certainly are using their organization to influence legislation and without them prop 8 would never have passed. If they want to be political so be it but then they have to pay taxes.

1. Please sign this petition about fraudulent tax exempt status: http://www.mormonsstoleourrights.com/

2. Website to show how to complain about fraudulent tax exempt organizations: http://lds501c3.wordpress.com/

Or print and fill out http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f3949a.pdf

List the taxpayer as:

Thomas S. Monson, et al
50 East North Temple
Salt Lake City, Utah 84150

List his occupation as President and the business as the ridiculously full name of the church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) at the same address.

Check the boxes for False Exemption and Public/Political Corruption.

Then in the Comments section demand that the LDS Church be fined and their tax-exempt status revoked for repeated and blatant violations of the IRS's separate of church and state rules, and for conspiring to interfere with a state's political process.

Check Yes under "Are books/records available?" and write in "campaign finance records."

You don't have to provide any of your own personal info. Mail the form and the printed articles to:
