Here is an example of the ignorance at our highest levels of government. There is a state representative from Tennessee her name is Debra Maggart. This year the press found an email from her stating that she had seen "evidence" that:
1. Homosexuals could not maintain a stable relationship, and that gay couples often sought young men to adopt for, apparently, "unfretted access to subject them to a life of molestation and sexual abuse."
2. Homosexual couples prey on young males.
3. "Some of the evidence we were presented showed that lesbian and gay couples have a higher rate of breaking up than heterosexual coupes as well as higher rates of promiscuity outside of their relationships."
That "evidence" was apparently presented to a legislative same-sex parenting study committee, which according to Maggart, met last summer when "we met and heard testimony from researchers on both sides of this issue." Rep. Maggart said "the State Director, Hedy Weinburg of the ACLU and a representative from Focus on the Family," presented information at that study committee.
So this state representative is going to use "Focus on the Family" as an unbiased consult about gay parenting? Focus on the Family? The anti-gay group that sent out a 10 page paper full of lies to 2.5 million people on how "homosexuals have at the center piece of their master plan the "utter destruction of the family". Focus on the Family who employs disgraced researcher, Paul Cameron, in spite of his fraudulent research methods which do have a "master plan" to perpetuate the destructive lies surrounding homosexuality? Focus on the family who is run by James Dobson (arguably the most anti-gay human on the planet) who has once said, I will fight against equal rights for gays until I draw my last breath?
The same James Dobson that just wrote an anti-gay article in Time magazine filled with lies about gays making bad parents? Dobson quoted only 2 researchers in that article and lied about their results to suit his anti-gay agenda. Both researchers immediately wrote to James telling him to never cite their work again. One of the researchers asked him if he remembered that one of the commandments directly from God was not to lie? Miss Debra Maggart believes that Focus on the Family will be fair and honest in the research that they present concerning gay Americans? Would she also consult the Klu Klux Klan to obtain incite about black Americans?
Miss Maggart is either:
a). so clueless that she didn't know how anti-gay Focus on the Family is
or (and this is probably a little closer to reality)
b). she knows and doesn't care.
Either way she needs to resign her seat as a state representative. The United States needs people that are smart and fair in office. Not cavemen that vote against a citizen being able to adopt a child, a huge vote changing that person's life forever, and they don't even review where their research came from. They could care les if it is valid and unbiased. Biased, prejudiced people do not present valid science. The day that "Focus on the Faggots" gives an honest opinion that is true regarding gays is the day pigs will fly.

According to the group "Concerned Women for America" (Family Voice) publication in April of 1996:
"Ellison and Duesberg traced the extensive abuse of recreational drugs, overuse of antibiotics, and a wide array of sexually transmitted and microbial diseases that plague homosexuals. Those living the 'fast track' lifestyle:
? average between 10 and 1000 partners per year
? inevitably sabotage their immune systems.
"In surveys conducted by homosexuals, gay men admitted that they regularly swallow the semen and ingest the feces and urine of their partners. Such common practices have led to massive outbreaks of hepatitis, intestinal parasite, yeast infections, herpes, other deadly viral infections, even typhoid fever. Still, nothing under present law prevents active homosexuals ? with or without AIDS ? from working in food handling professions, or with elderly and young children, who are especially vulnerable to illness.
"The median age of death for homosexuals with AIDS is 39 and homosexuals without AIDS is 42. For lesbians it is 44."
Lately, there is a lot of talk about homosexual marriages, etc. From a health standpoint, the homosexual and lesbian behavior is not a healthy life style and can even result in early death. Our society worries about people wearing seat belts, losing weight, smoking, taking drugs and abusing alcohol. Where is our consistency?

Ok where to begin? The funny thing about the claims they are making? They sounded all to familiar to our staff at http://www.valueallfamilies.com/ That's what happens when you make outrageous claims, like the median age for gay men is 42 and 44 for lesbians. It tends to stick in the memory. Then we remembered reading all of those false claims in a research study. We'll give you one guess who the researcher is. Yep, none other than our favorite disgraced, hack of a quack, Paul Cameron. We also checked into the "swallowing of the feces" comment and guess who the researcher was?
Yup you guessed it. That was also from Mr. "Gays should be branded on the face as to be easily recognized" as well. As a matter of fact, all of the claims listed above are from non-valid, unethical, unscientific research from Mr. "I have a grudge" Paul Cameron. So here we have a United States Representative, whose job it is to protect every American from injustice, making claims that gays eat feces, they don't live long, they cause massive out breaks of disease, and abuse drugs extensively.
He considers gays a risk to their own health just by existing. All claims of course are, completely false, and were actually fabricated by the researcher that is being cited. All based on lies, and fraud from Paul, and then published by the anti-gay hate group who made #8 on our top ten list of all time gay hate-groups "Concerned Women of America". It states on their website that "finding homosexuality repulsive is a natural human instinct". Isn't that special? Could we have the source on that please? I didn't think so.
This state representative is making decisions that will discriminate and negatively impact his fellow American citizens based solely on lies and fraudulent information from a known "hate group" whose only reason for existence is to make Gay Americans lives as hard as possible. Paul Cameron actually fabricated these exact claims that are being passed as scientific results. Do our United States Representatives not have people on staff that review studies that they are using to based their decisions on? They just take outrageous claims like: people eating feces for fun as true without checking the source? They must really have a completely warped view of gays. We understand prejudice and hate based on ignorance of facts when it comes from the average Joe. It is just hard to stomach when it comes from the highest levels of government.
State representatives should above all leave their prejudice baggage at home. The people who vote you in to office do so assuming that you are a fair and decent person. We might not agree with every vote that you cast but we should at least expect that you would not purposely try to make American citizen's lives harder because of unfair and untrue stereotypes and prejudices that surrounds the issue of homosexuality.
Representatives Jim Welker and Debra Maggart have shown that the ignorance surrounding homosexuality is still rampant even at the highest levels of government. This is why we have worked tirelessly on our free time without pay for the past two years. These reps make us realize how much more work we have to do.

Amendment Would Mean No Money to D.C. Domestic-Partner Registry

Action would keep federal prohibition in place.
An amendment to the Financial Services Appropriations bill, which passed Thursday, would prohibit the District of Columbia from using the portion of its budget received from the federal government to operate a registry for unmarried couples, including same-sex partners.
The amendment was introduced by Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va. The District gets about a fourth of its finances from Congress.
The District established a domestic-partner registry for unmarried, cohabiting couples in 1992, but the Republican leadership prevented it from being federally funded and has continued to do so each year.
President Bush said in a statement Wednesday he would veto the bill if the amendment was not included.
"The administration strongly opposes the bill's exclusion of a longstanding provision that disallows the use of federal funds to register unmarried, cohabitating couples in the District to enable them to qualify for benefits on the same basis as legally married couples.
"Under federal law, legal marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Federal tax dollars are not used to extend employment benefits to domestic partners of federal employees, and D.C. should not enjoy an exception to this rule."
Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director of issue analysis for Focus on the Family Action, called the vote in support of the amendment "an important victory." Notice how Focus on the family is always involved.......
"This may serve as one of the only votes on marriage we see in this Congress," she said.
Without this amendment, Earll said, gay American couples in D.C. would qualify for the same benefits as married men and women. AND!!!!!!!!!! Your point is????
"At a time when marriage is under attack," she said, "this vote is one sign that members of Congress are willing to draw the line at funding policies - like domestic partnerships - that undermine marriage."
