You can only imagen how much I have to say about this proposition to amend the constitution with discrimination. I will spare you all a lengthy tirade. That was so 2 years ago.....I have taken a break from this website secondary to losing myself into it. I come back to all of you with a clear head. A much more mellow approach. I have let the anger go. When I started the site it was more therapy for me than anything else. I had all this information bottled up inside and the site is what needed to explode out of me. If I add things to the website from this point on it will be for informational purposes only and not as a means to vent my frustrations. I will try to go back through each section and try to have a summary of what was said without all the blablabla....I am still incredibly proud of this website. I will still have it up until every state treats every citizen with the same laws. This will take about 10 more years. We are in for a gay rights movement that will last 10 more years. Instead of my rants about prop 8 I will let the most important founder of our nation speak. The author of the Declaration of Independence and our 3rd president of the United States. Here are some quotes from Thomas Jefferson:
"All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression." Thomas Jefferson
"An honest man can feel no pleasure in the exercise of power over his fellow citizens." Thomas Jefferson
"It behooves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others: or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own." Thomas Jefferson
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." Thomas Jefferson
"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others." Thomas Jefferson
"Because religious belief, or non-belief, is such an important part of every person's life, freedom of religion affects every individual. State churches that use government power to support themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of the church tends to make the clergy unresponsive to the people and leads to corruption within religion. Erecting the "wall of separation between church and state," therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society." Thomas Jefferson
Another interesting quote not by Jefferson:
"Whoever, therefore, thinks that he understands the divine Scriptures or any part of them so that it does not build the double love of God and of our neighbor does not understand it at all." (Christian Doctrine 1.35.40)41 Let us be true to the double love of God and neighbor, for that is what we are called to do for the sake of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Augustine
If America stands for anything, it stands for equality and nondiscrimination. What the prop 8 backers (Utah's Mormon church) are doing is the most anti-American thing this country has ever seen. If you are truly a patriot, truly, a real American, then you would not be doing this. They are trying to change the core values of our country to serve their individual needs. Shame on them. Prop 8 may lose this battle on Tuesday. If they don't then they will another day. It is only a matter of time.
I ask the backers of prop 8 to save yourselves and start enjoying life. You will let this eat you up inside. The anger will consume you. God does not want this. God only cares about how we treat each other. God is watching you. God is watching how you treat your gay brothers and sisters. You will be judged. Not the two gay adults in love.
Save yourself. Love will always defeat hate. Start enjoying life. You are wasting this precious gift from God.
California,
We are not an ignorant state. We are always on the forefront of where the country is going. We are intellectuals that pride ourselves on equality and going forward. We are not conservatives terrified of change. We want progress not regress. We do not make judgments based on prejudice, stereotypes, myths, and "tradition." We seek to do the right thing. We look at the facts. The facts of this case are clear. This amendment will "eliminate" existing rights for gay Californians. "Tradition" is not always right. It was "traditional" to have slaves. It was "traditional" to keep women barefoot and pregnant. It was "traditional" to only let white male land-owners vote. Tradition is sometimes just there because nothing is allowed to challenge it. Gay marriage will not injure traditional marriage. It will just add to it. Don't let the lies on TV and the radio fool you. The backers of prop 8 are panicking and will do anything to get the vote. The thought of gay people getting equality is terrifying to them for whatever reason. They are even threatening backers of No on 8. You all know someone gay by now. Are they anything to fear? Stop this madness and show the world what California stands for.
Vote No on 8
